Aerosol Research & Engineering Laboratories (ARE Labs) is a CRO that focuses on aerosol science and related technical research.Position Overview:
We are seeking a Staff Scientist / Engineer with a background in a scientific or engineering field, such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline. This role would take on a high-responsibility performing and managing aerosol, biological, and chemical projects. This role bridges hands-on laboratory work with analytical, engineering, and method-development responsibilities. You will operate specialized instrumentation, design experiments, troubleshoot systems, maintain data integrity, data analysis & reporting, and support clients with their testing goals.Responsibilities:
- Independently run aerosol projects in controlled environments.
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced instrumentation including NGI cascade impactors, APS/OPS, FTIR, TSI particle counters, microbial samplers, and HPLC.
- Assist in developing and refining test methods for nebulizers, air purifiers, filters, VOC systems, and environmental devices.
- Analyze data and prepare technical summaries, figures, and formal reports.
- Maintain ISO 17025-compliant documentation, calibration records, and experimental notes.
- Perform microbiology work such as plating, handling of microbial stocks, and basic sterile techniques.
- Support mechanical setups such as tubing assemblies, air flow controls, custom fixtures, and chamber instrumentation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized laboratory environment.
Preferred Background:
- Bachelor's, Master's, PhD in a scientific or engineering field, such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline.
- Preferred work experience: 10+ years; however, candidates with fewer years of experience who demonstrate strong relevant skills and qualifications will also be considered.
- Experience with laboratory testing, experimental design, or analytical instrumentation.
- Strong mechanical or technical aptitude and comfort working hands-on with equipment, tubing, flow systems, and fixtures.
- Ability to analyze data, understand scientific literature/standards, and write technical reports.
- Familiarity with aerosol science, inhalation devices, or environmental testing is a plus.
Have:
- Experience in FDA standards and regulations
- Experience with aerosol science
- Experience building or modifying lab test setups
