Job Description

Job Title:
Quality Control Specialist Location:
Houma, LA Job Overview:
The Quality Control (QC) Specialist performs inspections and verifies that shipyard work meets contract specifications, regulatory requirements, approved drawings, and company quality standards. The role documents inspection results and works with Production, Engineering, and other stakeholders to address quality issues.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspections, including structural fit-up, welding, dimensional checks, and coating application, as assigned.
  • Verify work against approved drawings, specifications, work packages, procedures, and the project Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
  • Coordinate hold-point and witness-point inspections with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), the United States Coast Guard (USCG), customer representatives, and other authorized parties.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports, test records, and supporting quality documentation.
  • Identify nonconforming work, initiate nonconformance reports when required, and verify corrective actions through closure.
  • Communicate inspection results and quality concerns clearly to Production, Engineering, Planning, and QC leadership.
  • Maintain organized, complete, and traceable quality records for assigned work.
  • Support trials, test events, regulatory inspections, and final acceptance activities.
  • Follow company safety requirements and maintain professional conduct in the office, yard, and aboard vessels.
Qualifications:
  • Relevant quality control experience in shipbuilding, marine construction, or heavy industrial work.
  • Working knowledge of inspection practices related to structural fabrication, welding, dimensional control, or coatings.
  • Familiarity with applicable ABS rules, USCG regulations, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • American Welding Society (AWS), Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), formerly NACE, or other relevant inspection certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, work packages, and inspection plans.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize inspections, and collaborate effectively with multiple departments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and accurate inspection records.
