Our facility is AS9100 registered and ITAR compliant. We machine close-tolerance work where the inspection is not a formality at the end of the job - it is how we know the process is still in control.

Position Summary:

This is a floor role, not a desk role! The In-Process Quality Inspector moves through the shop every day, pulling and inspecting partrs from each machine, catching drift before it becomes scrap. You will work from prints and inspection plans using hand gauges and mechanical inspection technique, and you will run our CMM to verify features that hand tools can't reach. The second half of the job is what makes it different from a standard inspection seat: we want our machine operators inspecting their own work with confidence. You will sit down with them at the machine, show them how to check the features that matter on their parts, and build their judgment about when a dimension is drifting. The person who does this well makes the who floor better, not just the parts they personally touch. You do not need to program CMM's for this role. You need to run existing programs well and know when the result is telling you something real. Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspection on machined parts across all work centers. Walk the floor daily, pulling parts from each running machine rather than waiting for them to reach an inspection bench. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements, including full GD&T callouts. Inspect using hand tools and mechanical technique - micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, gauge pins, indicators, optical comparator, surface plate work. Run existing CMM programs, fixture and align parts correctly, and interpret output against the print. Identify dimensional drift early and communicate it to the operator and the Quality Manager before parts go out of tolerance. Document inspection results accurately and completely as AS9100 requirements. Write up nonconformances clearly and support material review, root cause, and corrective action as the person who saw the part first. Verify that gauges and instruments in use on the floor are within calibration. Operator Training & Coaching This is a real part of the job and will be evaluated as such, not treated as a side task. Work one-on-one with operators at their machines, teaching them to inspect the features that matter on the parts they are running. Build operator confidence with hand gauges - proper technique, including basic GD&T interpretation. Help operators recognize when a dimension is trending toward a limit, so they adjust before producing scrap. Develop simple, usable in-process check sheets and inspection aids for recurring jobs. Give feedback in a way that operators will actually take on board - this role requires patience and credibility on the floor. Required Qualifications Extensive hands-on mechanical inspection experience in a machining environment - typically 5+ years, or equivalent depth in a high-mix precision shop. Strong bluprint reading, with demonstrated proficiency in GD&T interpretation. Expert command of mechanical inspection technique and hand gauges, including surface plate and optical comparator work. Experience operating a CMM and running existing programs. (Programming experience is welcome but is not required for this role). Comfortable working on an active shop floor and approaching operators at their machines throughout the day. Able to explain technical detail clearly to people with varing levels of inspection background. Accurate, disciplined documentation habits. Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR 120.62) due to the nature of the work pertormed at this facility. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Hexagon CMM's and PC-DMIS software. Background in Aerospace and Defense machining under AS9100 or a comparable quality system. Prior experience training, mentoring, or leading other inspectors or operators. Familiarity with first article inspection reporting (AS9102) and custome source inspection. Experience with close-tolerance, high-mix, low-volume work. Physical Requirements & Work Environment On-Site, full time, in an active machine shop environment; required PPE, including safety glasses and sagety footwear, in designated areas. On you feet and moving between work centers for most of the shift - this role is deliberately not stationed at a bench. Lifting and handling parts, fixtures, and gauges; must be able to lift up to 40 lbs., and to move heavier parts using carts, hoist, or a pallet jack.
