Determines quality and reliability standards by using gauges and optical instruments; verifying that specifications meet standards. Identifies in-process product condition by collecting samples during the production process; conducting in-process inspections and physical tests. Determines disposition of finished product by collecting; classifying, analyzing, and interpreting production and quality data; judging product acceptability in comparison to specifications. Documents status by reordering and summarizing inspection and physical test data, updating quality assurance database. Calibrates instruments; making regular inspections of equipment; verifying press settings at prescribed intervals. Performs minor repairs and regular maintenance.
