Sanitation Quality Technician Job Description The Sanitation Quality Technician verifies the effectiveness of sanitation processes throughout the facility to ensure all equipment and production areas meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards before production begins. This role combines hands-on machine operation, quality control, and basic mechanical troubleshooting in a refrigerated food and beverage environment. Responsibilities Verify that all sanitation processes have been completed effectively across the facility prior to production startup. Inspect equipment, production lines, and production environments to ensure they meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Operate and tend to machines while performing multiple tasks at once, such as monitoring outputs, adjusting settings, and verifying measurements. Use scales to measure, add, and subtract weights accurately, and adjust weights as needed to meet specifications. Perform basic mechanical tasks related to machine operation, including checking valves, hoses, and other components on equipment that may run on pneumatics and hydraulics. Conduct quality control and quality assurance checks to confirm that sanitation and production standards are consistently maintained. Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to support equipment inspection and minor adjustments. Operate computers and navigate software or applications to document inspections, record data, and complete required reports. Follow all safety and food handling procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment in food production areas. Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to address issues identified during inspections and support continuous improvement in sanitation effectiveness. Essential Skills Experience tending to machines while performing various tasks at the same time. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed. Comfort using a computer, including basic computer navigation such as toggling between applications. Experience using scales and understanding weight measurements, including adding and subtracting to achieve correct weights. Basic mechanical aptitude for operating machines and supporting mechanical tasks. Attention to detail in inspection, quality control, and documentation. Ability to follow established procedures and regulatory requirements in a food production environment. Reliability and consistency in attendance and ability to maintain dependable transportation to and from work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in food and beverage production is preferred but not required. Experience in industrial environments such as manufacturing or automotive is beneficial. Familiarity with industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers. Exposure to equipment that runs on pneumatics and hydraulics, including systems with valves and hoses. Comfort working in a refrigerated environment such as salsa and hummus production areas. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a food and beverage production facility, with many areas dedicated to products such as salsa and hummus that must be kept in refrigerated conditions. The position requires full use of personal protective equipment in food areas, including items such as lab coats, hair nets, beard nets, and rubber gloves. Work involves operating and inspecting industrial equipment, including machines that may use pneumatics, hydraulics, valves, and hoses. Shifts are structured as 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday, with mandatory Saturdays and potential work on Sundays depending on production needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
