LAB TECHNICIAN / QA NIGHTSHIFT
LEADMacomb, MIDirect Hire$29-39/hr. 2nd Shift (4:30pm - 4am)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Write CMM programs for new program launches based on customer specifications provided by engineering departmentWork with Engineering and Set-up department to verify that parts meet customer specifications on new program launchesPerform CMM or technical layout inspection on all parts as requiredMaintain Q # Log for all complete part inspectionsEnsure first piece approval (FPA) parts are completed in a timely manner.

Organize the Lab and insist Lab housekeeping is maintained.

File all Quality documents in assigned area. Files need to be organized and labeled.

Perform LPA's and assist with final audits, gage R&R studies and gage calibration.

Setup gauging as required.

Participate in quality problem solving, corrective actions and provide support to other departments.

Communicate internal quality information between shifts.

Communicate line-up from QA supervisor to nightshift personnelOversee completion of all assigned afternoon shift tasksReport shift activities to QA supervisorFollow Housekeeping, Safety (lockout/tagout) & Environmental requirements (recycling, labeling, spills and programs)Continuous improvement ideas in safety, productivity, quality, housekeepingOther duties as defined by your Supervisor
REQUIREMENTS
CMM programming is requiredZeiss Calypso software - preferredQuality Systems and ProceduresGD&T, SPCAbility to read blueprintsM&M, Comparator and Contractor capabilitiesLab Measurement Equipment and Shop Floor gages
Leadership and Good Communication SkillsMachining Skills:
Production Parts Knowledge:
Experience with automotive components and machined castings and forgings, such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, transmission castings, brackets, and shafts
Production Speed & Drift:
Familiarity with how high-speed CNC cycles can cause tool wear, thermal expansion, and part drift over longer production runs
Gauges & Fixtures:
Familiarity with custom automotive attribute gauges, go/no-go gauges, production fixtures, and surface plate layouts
First-Article & In-Process Inspection:
Machining experience provides a strong foundation for quickly qualifying first-article parts and identifying issues during changeoversRoot Cause Analysis (8D / PPAP): When a CMM identifies a dimensional deviation, machining knowledge can help trace the issue back to a specific variable, such as a worn insert, loose fixture, tool wear, or thermal expansion
Relevant Machining Knowledge:
Blueprint Reading:
Ability to read complex engineering drawings and understand tolerances, symbols, and datum structures
Material Behavior:
Understanding how different metals respond to cutting tools, heat, and clamping pressure, and how these factors can affect part dimensions
Manufacturing Processes:
Background with CNC mills, lathes, or manual machining helps identify common machining-related issues such as burrs, tool wear, chatter, and dimensional variation.
Zeiss Calypso Software:
Ability to utilize, read, and write inspection programs
Root Cause Problem Solving:
When the CMM identifies an out-of-tolerance condition, machining experience can help determine the likely source of dimensional variation
Shop Floor Communication:
Ability to speak the same language as machinists and production personnel, making it easier to communicate measurement results, discuss adjustments, and resolve quality issues INDQT
