Job Summary The Quality Inspector/Floater provides quality control and assurance throughout all phases of the production process, beginning with raw materials and ending with the final product. This role involves inspecting products at various stages of production to ensure quality and reliability. The Quality Inspector/Floater performs daily in-process audits on production parts and completes, records, and documents first article inspections for setup. The position also assists with training manufacturing personnel on inspection-related processes, including the proper use of inspection tools and resources, as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sets up inspection equipment for use on the production floor. Completes first article inspections in a timely manner. Trains production staff on the proper use of inspection equipment, as needed. Instructs production staff on identifying part defects, tagging nonconforming parts, and proper disposition of tagged parts. Cleans and returns signed equipment to designated storage areas. Creates first piece, in-process, first article inspection (FAI), certificate of conformance (C of C), and final inspection reports in accordance with customer requirements. Performs dimensional and visual inspections on manufactured parts using precision measurement tools, including calipers, verniers, scales, pin gauges, and height gauges. Operates and programs Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to verify part conformance to specifications. Interprets and applies Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements. Collaborates with production teams to identify and resolve quality issues on the shop floor. Documents inspection results and maintains accurate quality records in accordance with company and regulatory standards. Conducts audits and supports continuous improvement initiatives across multiple facilities. Assists with root cause analysis and implements corrective actions for nonconforming products. Supports the Shipping Manager with outsourced components, processes, and finishes. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities The job has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications Proven experience in sheet metal manufacturing quality inspection role. Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment. Hands-on experience with CMM operation and software. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Willingness to travel between facilities as needed. Educations & Experience High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred. Two years work experience in a manufacturing environment and OJT training as needed. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions. Ability to transfer metric into decimal equivalent. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
