Primary Objective:
The Fabrication Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of specialized fabrication equipment used in the production of stainless steel vessel components. The operator ensures that all work is performed to company quality standards, industry codes (ASME, 3-A, BPE), and delivery expectations while maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
Equipment Used:
Able to use a variety of hand and portable power tools, which includes drills, hand shear, nibbler, grinder, sander, and related equipment. Necessary instruments such as tapes, scales, protractors, squares, and calipers are also included.
Material Used:
Works mainly with steel and stainless steel plate and sheet metal of various gauges, sizes and weights and also with bar stock tubing and angle iron, uses layout fluid and brushes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate and monitor fabrication machines including but not limited to: stainless steel head knuckling machine, plasma seam welder, circle cut shear, break press, shear, high-pressure head press, Hylite head polisher, dimple punch, band saw, and paper machine. Follow production travelers, work instructions, and supervisor direction to ensure that component parts, assemblies, and finished products are manufactured accurately and on time. Maintain awareness of material specifications, tolerances, and required finishes. Support quality control by performing in-process inspections, verifying critical dimensions, and ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and standards. Work cooperatively with supervisors, leads, quality control personnel, and fellow fabricators to progress jobs efficiently through the department. Assist in the setup, adjustment, and minor maintenance of assigned equipment. Ensure safe use of fabrication machines and support company safety initiatives. Set up and operate fabrication machines to cut, form, press, weld, punch, and polish stainless steel components. Read and interpret engineering drawings, travelers, and job instructions. Verify workpieces against specifications using measuring devices and QC gauges. Handle materials safely, including loading and unloading large vessel heads, plates, and liners. Perform basic troubleshooting of machines and notify maintenance or supervision of issues. Assist in training and mentoring new operators or helpers as assigned. Maintain proper documentation of work completed, including labor reporting and QC checks. Uphold housekeeping, 5S, and safety requirements in assigned work area.
Qualifications:
Previous experience operating fabrication equipment in a metal manufacturing environment preferred. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, travelers, and work instructions. Knowledge of stainless steel fabrication processes and related shop practices is a plus. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Capable of working safely around cranes, forklifts, and heavy equipment. Willingness to work with supervisors, leads, and QC to ensure jobs are completed to standards. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods. Be able to complete a job related physical and drug test.

Position will start at $24/hour, plus $2/hour for second shift.
