Job Description

Assist with the basic maintenance of aquatic life support systems including pumps, filters and related equipment. Perform water quality testing and analysis. Perform pond maintenance at Tingley Beach and behind-the-scenes at the Aquarium. Participate in special projects and tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Perform basic mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair on Life Support System equipment such as; pumps, filters, Ozone generators, chillers, Air Compressors, and HVAC equipment. Perform basic plumbing repairs and new installations on Life Support Systems using PVC pipe and fittings. Perform water quality analysis using water quality lab equipment such as, but not limited to, Spectrometer, pH meter, Dissolved Oxygen Meter. Perform daily water quality rounds on all BioPark Lakes, Ponds, and water features to collect; litter, dead fish, fishing line, Algae, and wounded animals. Makes adjustments to water level, and flow. Performs daily housekeeping in all Life support mechanical rooms, and areas. Assists staff with basic daily operation of Life Support Systems.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; address complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. High school diploma or GED; and Two (2) years of experience in industrial maintenance or repair of mechanical and electrical equipment. Experience in aquatic life support system operations preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days from date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Environmental:
Work indoors, sometimes in confined spaces, wet surfaces, noise, work outdoors in all seasons, work with large pumps, filters, etc.; contact with wild animals, waterfowl and litter.
Physical:
Able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, perform repetitive movements ie: shoveling, picking up trash, weeding.
