Job Title:
Construction Materials Technician Job Description The Construction Materials Technician performs field testing and inspection of concrete, soils, and aggregates on active construction sites to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and industry standards. This role focuses on accurate sampling, testing, documentation, and communication of results while maintaining equipment and adhering to strict safety policies. Responsibilities Perform field testing and inspection of concrete in accordance with ASTM and ACI standards. Conduct concrete sampling, slump testing, air content testing, temperature testing, and prepare compression test cylinders for laboratory analysis. Perform in-place soil and aggregate compaction testing using a nuclear density gauge. Accurately record and document test results, observations, and field activities in standardized forms and reports. Communicate testing results, deficiencies, and non-conformances clearly to project managers, contractors, and clients. Observe construction activities to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards. Maintain testing equipment in good working condition and ensure calibration requirements are met and documented. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while working on active construction sites. Prepare detailed daily field reports and submit all documentation in a timely and organized manner. Travel to various project sites as needed throughout the assigned region to support ongoing construction activities. Essential Skills ACI Level I Concrete Testing certification. At least 1 year of experience in construction field work. Ability to perform nuclear density testing using a nuclear density gauge. Strong understanding of concrete testing methods and materials testing principles. Ability to follow ASTM and ACI standards for concrete and materials testing. Competence in accurately recording, documenting, and reporting field test results and observations. Ability to work safely and effectively on active construction sites while following safety policies and regulatory requirements. Capability to travel to multiple project sites as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with concrete inspection and observation reporting. Familiarity with construction materials such as concrete, soils, and aggregates. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for managing daily field reports and documentation. Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with project teams and clients. Ability to maintain and calibrate field testing equipment. Comfort working in a fast-paced, field-based environment with varying site conditions. Work Environment This role is primarily field-based and requires working on active construction sites and in an on-site warehouse setting. The position involves regular travel to various project locations, often outdoors and in changing weather and site conditions. Work is performed around heavy equipment, construction materials, and testing devices such as nuclear density gauges. Team members follow established safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety vests, safety footwear, and other site-specific gear as required. The environment is hands-on and collaborative, with a focus on quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications and industry standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Eastlake, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
