About Magnolia Bakery:
Magnolia Bakery opened our first location on a quiet street corner in the heart of New York City's West Village in 1996. From then to now, Magnolia Bakery has grown to become a globally famous, locally loved retail bakery and desserts brand. With locations in New York City, LA and Chicago, a nationwide e-commerce and wholesale business, international locations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and an emerging Franchise business in the US, Magnolia Bakery's whimsical spin on classic, American desserts is now coming Greater Cleveland and the great state of Ohio! Position Summary The Bakery Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of product preparation, quality, and presentation to ensure consistent execution of Magnolia Bakery's signature desserts. This role leads the bakery production team and manages daily operations to maintain the highest standards of product quality, efficiency, and food safety. All duties are performed in accordance with Magnolia Bakery's policies, practices, and procedures. The Bakery Production Manager upholds the organization's core values and SWEET mission statement while consistently promoting brand integrity, product excellence, and exceptional customer experiences. This role combines hands-on baking leadership with operational oversight to ensure that high-quality baked goods are produced efficiently, safely, and consistently. This is an exciting time to join Magnolia Bakery in Greater Cleveland with our first location coming soon to the Legacy Village Shopping Center. As we launch our first location in the market, we are looking for a passionate leader who is excited to help build the bakery from the ground up and grow with us as we expand in the region, throughout the State, and hopefully beyond.
Leadership & Team Development:
Hire, train, and manage a team of bakers, cake icers, and prep cooks. Supervise, mentor, and inspire the bakery team to consistently uphold Magnolia Bakery standards. Foster a positive, collaborative, and efficient bakery culture. Manage staffing, scheduling, and labor costs within established guidelines. Provide ongoing coaching and training to ensure strong technical skills and recipe execution across the team. Build accountability and maintain high team performance through clear expectations and leadership.
Production & Quality Assurance:
Oversee daily production of cakes, cupcakes, banana pudding, cookies, and seasonal menu items. Ensure all recipes and production methods are executed with precision, consistency, and efficiency. Maintain exceptional product presentation and uphold Magnolia Bakery's brand standards. Monitor ingredient usage and minimize waste to meet food cost targets and maintain store profitability. Implement quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and compliance with food safety standards.
Operational Excellence:
Actively participate in bakery production including preparation, icing, and finishing as needed. Develop and manage daily production schedules to meet store demand while maintaining operational efficiency. Partner with Magnolia Bakery culinary leadership on seasonal menu launches and product rollouts. Manage inventory, ingredient ordering, and vendor relationships to ensure consistent supply and optimal stock levels. Identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance workflow efficiency and reduce waste. Troubleshoot production challenges and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively. Ensure full compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Front of House team to ensure smooth coordination of product availability and daily production needs. Partner with corporate culinary and operations teams to implement new initiatives and maintain operational standards. Collaborate with the management team to ensure all bakers and icers execute recipes accurately and adhere to Magnolia Bakery policies and procedures. Support community engagement and special events including demonstrations, charity initiatives, and local fundraisers.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Ability to stand and walk for periods of 3-5 hours without a break. Occasional moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, bending, and overhead reaching. Work environment includes exposure to hot kitchen equipment and fast-paced bakery production settings.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop diverse teams. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Hands-on, flexible, and highly responsive approach to operations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc) and POS systems. Ability to use experience and judgment to plan production schedules and accomplish operational goals. Ability to attend training in New York City with Magnolia Corporate from July 20th - August 14th (home on weekends).
Qualifications & Experience:
5+ years of professional baking experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of traditional American desserts including cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and pastries. Experience managing high-volume production while maintaining product quality and consistency. Proven leadership experience managing bakery or kitchen teams. Experience with inventory management, production planning, and operational workflows. ServSafe certification (or equivalent) preferred. Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
