Job Description:
Quality Technician (Interior) Position Summary The Quality Technician supports day-to-day product and process quality for non-structural aircraft interior components . This role performs inspections, documentation review, and nonconformance control to ensure parts meet engineering drawings, customer requirements, and the Quality Management System. Key Responsibilities Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on aircraft interior parts and assemblies. Interpret and verify compliance to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions (dimensions, hole patterns, edge conditions, hardware callouts, finishes, labeling). Inspect for cosmetic quality and fit/finish (scratches, dents, chips, blemishes, color match, alignment, gaps/flushness) and document results to defined acceptance criteria. Verify hardware and assembly requirements (fastener type/length, torque witness/verification where applicable, safetying, correct kits). Confirm material and process requirements (adhesives/sealants, cure/shelf-life, mix/lot traceability, upholstery/cover materials, foam/flammability documentation where applicable). Use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges) and basic inspection fixtures, record results clearly. Complete and maintain quality records (inspection reports, travelers/routers, certificates, inspection stamps as applicable). Identify, document, and control nonconforming material (NCRs); support disposition process (MRB) per procedure. Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities as required (AS9102 format familiarity preferred). Verify traceability of materials and components (lot/batch, C of C, shelf-life, serial numbers where applicable). Support configuration control : confirm correct part revision, options, and customer/airline-specific requirements are applied. Assist with internal audits , housekeeping/5S, and continuous improvement activities. Communicate quality issues promptly to production, engineering, and quality leadership; help drive corrective actions. Follow safety, ESD/FOD prevention, and handling requirements for cosmetic and high-visibility interior components. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED (technical certificate or associate degree preferred). 1+ years in manufacturing inspection/quality (aerospace interiors preferred). Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and basic GD&T concepts. Comfortable using measurement tools and documenting results accurately.
Working knowledge of quality basics:
nonconformance control, corrective action support, and document control. Strong attention to detail—especially for cosmetic/fit-and-finish requirements common to lavatories, seating, and window assemblies. Basic computer skills (ERP/MRP, Excel, inspection forms). Preferred Qualifications Experience in an AS9100 environment and aerospace documentation practices. Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection . Experience inspecting any of the following: Lavatory modules/components (doors, latches, hinges, molded panels, plumbing/electrical sub-assemblies where applicable) Seating components (tracks/brackets, seat pans, shrouds, armrests, cushions/covers) Window systems (shades, bezels/reveals, liners, trim) Understanding of FOD prevention , torque verification, and configuration management. Skills & Competencies Detail-oriented, methodical, and consistent Clear written documentation and professional communication Ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision Team-first mindset; comfortable escalating issues early Work Environment & Physical Requirements Manufacturing/production floor environment may require PPE. Frequent standing/walking; occasional lifting to 35 lbs. Ability to visually inspect cosmetic surfaces and small features under inspection lighting. Schedule Full-time; shift and overtime as required by production demand. What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days) Independently completes inspections and documentation with minimal rework. Consistently identifies issues early and follows NCR process correctly. Builds strong working relationships with engineering. Demonstrates strong understanding of interior-specific quality risks: cosmetics, fit/finish, correct options/configuration, and traceability .
