Labor On Demand currently has openings for Testing Technician I-III - Transformer Testing Job Summary The Testing Technician I-III is responsible for performing incoming, in-process, and final electrical testing on distribution and power transformers to verify product quality, performance, and compliance with applicable IEEE and ANSI standards . This position performs a variety of electrical tests, analyzes and documents test results, assists with troubleshooting and recommendations, and maintains testing equipment. The Testing Technician may also assist with moving transformers, collecting oil samples, preparing completed units for shipment, and other production-related activities. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working with electrical testing equipment in an industrial open-shop environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform incoming, in-process, and final testing of distribution and power transformers. Conduct electrical testing in accordance with applicable IEEE and ANSI standards and established company procedures. Perform transformer testing including, but not limited to: Insulation resistance testing Winding resistance testing Turns ratio testing Full-voltage energization No-load loss testing Full-load loss testing Impedance testing Polarity testing Accurately record, review, and analyze test results. Identify abnormal readings, discrepancies, or potential equipment issues and communicate findings to appropriate personnel. Provide recommendations regarding whether equipment may proceed to the next stage of production based on testing results and established specifications. Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on testing equipment. Maintain testing equipment, tools, cables, and work areas in safe and proper operating condition. Pull transformer oil samples for testing, including Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and full oil screening. Safely operate an overhead crane to move transformers and equipment as required. Move transformers into and out of designated testing areas. Use manual hand tools including hammers, wrenches, sockets, and similar equipment. Assist with palletizing and preparing transformers for shipment when required. Apply required stenciling, labels, identification markings, and shipping information to completed transformers. Follow all established safety procedures when working around energized electrical equipment, transformers, cranes, and industrial machinery. Maintain accurate testing and production documentation. Keep the testing area clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards. Communicate testing concerns, equipment malfunctions, and safety issues promptly to supervision. Perform additional production, testing, or related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must meet any client-specific background check, drug screening, identification, or site-access requirements. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Must demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred unless otherwise required by the position level. Basic knowledge and ability to safely use manual hand tools, including hammers, wrenches, sockets, and similar tools. Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and use of a calculator. Ability to read and follow written work instructions, testing procedures, safety requirements, and specifications. Ability to communicate effectively in English as necessary to understand work instructions and safety information. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record testing information. Ability to recognize and report abnormal test results or equipment conditions. Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy and following safety procedures. Ability to work independently as well as part of a production and testing team. Ability to work in an open-shop industrial environment and tolerate changing or harsh environmental conditions. Willingness and ability to follow electrical, crane, PPE, and general industrial safety requirements. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience testing distribution or power transformers. Previous experience working with electrical equipment, transformers, industrial manufacturing, utilities, or electrical systems. Familiarity with IEEE and ANSI transformer testing standards. Experience performing insulation resistance, winding resistance, turns ratio, loss, impedance, or polarity testing. Experience working around energized electrical equipment. Experience collecting transformer oil samples, including DGA or oil-screen samples. Previous overhead crane experience. Experience reading electrical test results, specifications, diagrams, or technical documentation. Previous experience in transformer manufacturing, repair, assembly, or testing. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting experience. Relevant electrical, industrial, crane, or safety training/certifications. Work Environment Work is primarily performed in an industrial open-shop testing and manufacturing environment . Employees may be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, dust, dirt, oil, fumes, and changing weather conditions. The work environment may include loud machinery and industrial noise. Employees will work around large distribution and power transformers, electrical testing equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other industrial equipment. The position may involve work near energized electrical equipment and high-voltage testing areas. All established electrical safety procedures and restricted-area requirements must be followed. Employees must remain alert to moving equipment, suspended loads, electrical hazards, and other industrial workplace hazards. Required PPE must be worn as designated for the work area and assigned task. Work may be fast-paced and production-driven, requiring employees to maintain accuracy, quality, and safety while meeting testing and production schedules. Safety is an essential function of this position. Employees are expected to follow all company safety policies, testing procedures, equipment requirements, and supervisor instructions at all times. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift. Frequently bend, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements. Use hands and fingers to operate tools, testing equipment, controls, and other industrial equipment. Safely handle hand tools, testing cables, oil-sampling equipment, and production materials. Work around large transformers and industrial equipment. Climb or access equipment and work areas when required to perform assigned duties. Maintain sufficient visual attention and hand-eye coordination to perform detailed electrical testing and accurately read instruments and measurements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the workday as applicable to the task and work area. Perform physically demanding work for extended periods in an industrial environment.
