Lead Electrical Commissioning Technician Our Vision:

The Lead Electrical Commissioning Technician is a working lead within the commissioning crew, responsible for the hands-on execution of electrical commissioning activities and for directing the contract labor, O&M personnel, and technicians working within their scope. This is a field role. The Lead Tech performs and oversees electrical testing, inspection, energization support, and functional verification activities from pre-commissioning through system turnover. The position reports to the Commissioning Manager (CxM). This role is fleet-mobile. Assignments follow the active commissioning schedule across the portfolio of geothermal facilities. As the fleet scales, Lead Technicians will administratively anchor to the regional commissioning management layer for performance management and career development, while receiving day-to-day operational direction from the site CxM during each campaign.

Responsibilities:

Field Execution:

Perform electrical commissioning activities including cable and equipment testing, protective relay testing and verification, switchgear and MCC commissioning, transformer energization support, VFD and motor checkout, and grounding system verification Execute and document pre-commissioning inspections, point-to-point checks, loop checks, and functional tests for electrical systems per applicable procedures and acceptance criteria Conduct or support NETA acceptance testing activities in coordination with the Sr. Electrical T&C Engineer; ensure test records are complete, accurate, and signed before systems advance to energization Lead energization activities for assigned systems, including pre-energization walkdowns, hold point verification, and coordination with the operations and control room teams Troubleshoot electrical faults, wiring discrepancies, and equipment deficiencies during commissioning; document findings and coordinate resolution with the appropriate engineer or vendor

Crew Direction:

Direct the day-to-day work of contract electricians, O&M technicians, and electrical commissioning technicians assigned to their scope Coordinate with OEM and vendor field service personnel on equipment-specific commissioning activities; maintain oversight of vendor scope and documentation Participate in pre-task briefs, job hazard analyses, and daily crew coordination meetings; enforce work authorization and

compliance within the electrical scope Identify scope conflicts, sequencing issues, and resource constraints within the electrical work front; escalate to the CxM and Commissioning Coordinator promptly

Documentation and Quality:

Complete test records, inspection sheets, and commissioning checklists accurately and on time; documentation is a deliverable, not an afterthought Maintain configuration control within the electrical scope; deviations from design are documented through the management-of-change process before work proceeds Identify and log punch list items within the electrical scope; verify closure physically before signing off

Safety:

Maintain stop-work authority within the electrical work front without escalation; high-energy electrical environments require unconditional safety practice Enforce arc flash, LOTO, PTW, and SIMOPS compliance for all electrical work within scope

Skills and Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

5 or more years of electrical commissioning or electrical testing experience in power generation, substation, industrial, or equivalent high-voltage environments Demonstrated hands-on experience with three-phase power systems: switchgear, protective relays, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, motors, and cable systems Working knowledge of NETA acceptance testing standards and electrical test equipment operation Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay schematics, and protection coordination drawings Experience directing contract or mixed-workforce field crews Strong written documentation skills; test records and commissioning checklists require precision Established electrical safety practices including arc flash, LOTO, and high-voltage work procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

Journeyman or Master Electrician license, or equivalent trade qualification NETA Certified Commissioning Technician (CCT) or equivalent certification Experience commissioning utility-scale power generation or substation facilities Exposure to geothermal, ORC, or combined-cycle power plant electrical systems Familiarity with protection relay testing software (SEL, GE, Schweitzer, or similar)
