From $32.00/hour (higher compensation available based on experience) Position Summary We are looking for a detail-oriented Structural Steel Quality Inspector to support quality assurance activities within a steel fabrication environment. This position is responsible for inspecting materials, welds, coatings, and fabricated components to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and internal quality procedures. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in structural steel fabrication and be comfortable spending the majority of their time on the production floor conducting inspections and supporting quality initiatives. Essential Duties Conduct inspections of fabricated steel components, weldments, and finished products to verify compliance with specifications and quality requirements. Review work for conformance with
AWS D1.1, AWS
D1.5, AISC, and other applicable standards. Inspect incoming materials, components, and consumables before release to production. Record inspection findings and maintain accurate quality documentation and reports. Identify, label, and track inspected materials according to established procedures. Perform calibration and routine verification of inspection equipment and welding-related tools. Assist with welder qualification testing and certification activities. Support training efforts related to fabrication quality, welding practices, and inspection standards. Maintain drawing control and support other quality management processes. Work closely with fabrication and management teams to address quality concerns and implement corrective actions. Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on quality, efficiency, and compliance. Promote safe work practices and contribute to a strong safety culture. Required Qualifications Minimum two years of experience in structural steel fabrication or a related manufacturing environment. Experience performing quality inspections, audits, or quality control activities. Working knowledge of
AWS D1.1, AWS
D1.5, and AISC requirements. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and project specifications. Experience using inspection and measuring equipment, including: Fillet Weld Gauges V-WAC Gauges Squares Tape Measures Standard Quality Inspection Tools Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Preferred Qualifications Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including: Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Penetrant Testing (PT) Additional certifications related to welding inspection, structural steel fabrication, coatings, or bolting. Previous experience working in a steel manufacturing or fabrication facility. Work Environment Majority of work performed on the production floor. Active fabrication and manufacturing setting. Non-climate-controlled facility with exposure to varying temperatures. Frequent standing, walking, and inspection of materials throughout the shift.
