We are currently seeking an experienced Full-time Licensed Stationary Engineer. The role is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all machinery and equipment required to supply the hospital complex with electrical power, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, medical air, medical vacuum, steam and water. You will be responsible for performing repairs and maintenance to a variety of HVAC and Refrigeration equipment including air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, commercial boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, economizers and humidifiers, RTUs, DDC temperature controls, condensing units, ice machines, walk-in coolers & freezers You will be responsible for maintaining high
  • and low-pressure steam boilers and their associated equipment including chemical additives, make up water tanks, surge tanks, water pumps, process control valves and mechanical float switches.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Diagnose and repair malfunctioning Plant Heating & Refrigeration equipment. Check mechanical systems within air handlers to maintain proper motor and fan alignment, proper belt tension as well as proper running speed. Make necessary corrections and/or replacements when necessary. Performs all seasonal work on air handling units. For example, filling and draining coils and towers, winterizing coils. Installs and repairs campus air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment as assigned in order to support the operational needs of the hospital. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance. Maintain, test, rebuild, repair, and/or replace steam traps, strainers, etc. as required. Operate and troubleshoot BAS systems and controls. Repairing and maintains existing plumbing systems. Operate & maintain pneumatic tube systems. Perform all necessary boiler water monitoring & testing. Thorough understanding of the steam and refrigeration cycles, and how they relate to building environmental systems and equipment. Knowledgeable of electrical distribution and safe working practices. Ability to overhaul, disassemble and reassemble pumps such as feed, transfer, condensate, vacuum, chemical, and re-circulating pumps. Perform yearly overhaul of fire tube boilers such as punching tubes, refractory repairs etc.
Job Requirements:
Associates Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or minimum of 5 years of experience in facility, building maintenance or building experience with commercial cooling, refrigeration and HVAC system
  • Required Knowledge of cooling, refrigeration and HVAC systems and the Building Automation Systems that controls them, as well as the ability to detect technical malfunctions is required. Licensed by the City of Chicago as a Stationary Engineer
  • Required Must have and maintain an EPA Refrigerant License
  • Required Healthcare facility experience preferred
