/Wk. 40 hours/wk Position Information Position Information Minimum Qualifications High school graduation, endorsed trade school or an equivalent combination of education. Proof of four years of experience operating heating plants, power houses or boiler rooms with high pressure steam and/or High Temperature Hot Water (HTHW) operations. Individual must possess a valid current City of Detroit high pressure boiler operator's license. Applicant must demonstrate operation and maintenance working knowledge of operation and maintenance of hydronic heat systems, fans, motors, isolation valves, control valves, pumps, expansion tanks, heat exchangers, cooling towers and water chemical treatment. This individual is to evaluate and take corrective steps to resolve equipment malfunctions. Knowledge, experience and training for flame monitor safety controls. Applicant to perform boiler inspection teardown and restore boiler to service. Applicant to understand, troubleshoot and reset boiler management system components. Candidate must also possess a working knowledge of other trades including electrical and plumbing installations and have ability to perform repairs on these systems. Competence to repair equipment in a professional manner. Ability to read, understand, interpret, and follow blue prints, sketches, job specifications, layout piping, directions, safety labels, equipment manuals, etc. is required. Aptitude and skills necessary to operate a personal computer is also needed. Must be available to work weekends, holidays and midnight and evening shifts as needed and respond to emergency calls. Must have the physical ability to perform the full range of proposed job duties and capability to tolerate high levels of heat and noise. Ability to work without supervision. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, students, staff, faculty and visitors. Must possess a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the University by the University's insurance carrier. Desired Qualifications Applicant to have a minimum of (2) years' experience operating a Building Automation System (BAS) using Honeywell EBI, Automated Logic Corp (ALC) WebCTRL, Johnson Controls, Tridium/Niagara, comparable BAS application product. Knowledge and experience using ABB Industrial Compact AC800M PLC's, Bailey SLC's, Allen Bradley Logix or other industrial automation controls is desired. Applicant to have knowledge, experience and formal training for Fireye E-110 or newer flame monitor safety controls. Experience with Cogeneration. All Qualifications Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered. Position Details Position Purpose The successful candidate will become part of a skilled trade's team responsible for the Central Heating Plant (CHP) and campus-wide maintenance activities. This individual will be called upon to perform a variety of tasks associated with maintaining and operating CHP, High Temperature Hot Water (HTHW) distribution system, building HVAC, and various mechanical / plumbing / electrical/ control systems.
