Position Summary:
The Utilities Maintenance Operator Subject Matter Expert (UMOSME) is responsible for providing maintenance and reliability support within the plant, with a focus on critical water, gas, and air systems. This role partners closely with maintenance, operations, engineering, and reliability teams to ensure asset health, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The UMOSME plays a key role in planning and executing maintenance strategies, managing critical equipment data, supporting CMMS workflows, and mentoring maintenance personnel. This individual will also lead compliance efforts, including maintaining required licensure and overseeing process safety management (PSM) programs. This position may require work on weekends and holidays as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead maintenance and operations efforts for water, gas, and air systems to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance Develop and implement maintenance strategies, including preventive and precision maintenance techniques Identify and execute system improvement projects Collaborate with reliability and engineering teams on condition monitoring and asset management Ensure proper planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance work orders in CMMS Provide technical leadership, troubleshooting support, and training to maintenance staff Maintain accurate equipment records, documentation, and regulatory compliance Lead or support root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives Manage and maintain required utilities licensure (Chief Operator level) Oversee and ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to food safety and quality standards Lead emergency response efforts within the plant
Qualifications Required:
Chief Boiler License (Class A or B) Experience in utilities maintenance operations, with emphasis on steam or refrigeration systems Strong troubleshooting experience in electrical and instrumentation systems (E&I) Knowledge of mechanical, piping, and electrical schematics and blueprints PSM certification Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills Ability to work cross-functionally across all levels of an organization
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of utilities maintenance experience Experience with PLCs and automation systems Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP) Leadership experience Knowledge of regional regulatory codes
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, climb, and perform physical tasks as needed Occasionally lift up to 60 pounds Work in varying temperatures and noisy environments Visual and manual dexterity required for equipment operation and inspection
