Stationary Engineer operates, maintains, and repairs stationary machinery and equipment, including generators, boilers, chillers, and other HVAC system components to ensure safe and efficient building operation in support of the museum's mission. In addition, the Stationary Engineer will be called on to perform other types of routine maintenance in conjunction with Facilities Staff in support of events, exhibitions, and daily operations.
Core Responsibilities:
Starting, regulating, repairing, and shutting down machinery and equipment. Continuous monitoring of the Museum's Building Management System (BMS) and daily inspections of HVAC systems and equipment to detect problems and maintain climate standards. Maintain schedule and log related to third party maintenance contracts for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems. Perform routine repair and maintenance of HVAC systems including cleaning, lubrication and replacement of filters, belts, and other wear components. Inspect, diagnose, and repair machinery and equipment in distress including maintenance equipment and vehicles. Perform basic electrical and plumbing repairs. Painting, carpentry, and fabrication of art exhibition furniture in support of events and exhibitions. Position requires occasional off-hours and weekend on-call status and potential remote and/or in-person overtime response. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
Hands-on skills with repair of mechanical equipment and machinery. Mechanical, electrical, thermal and instrumentation knowledge. Attention to detail for monitoring equipment and tracking data. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for equipment failures. Effective communication and coordination skills. General building maintenance skills including electrical, plumbing, and light carpentry.
Education and Experience:
Must have City of Buffalo Class 2 Engineer certification, minimum, and 2+ years in-field training or similar relevant experience. High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma. Must have valid NYS Driver License. 1-year minimum work experience performing general building maintenance or similar relevant experience.
