We are seeking a Combustion Engineer (Power Plant Maintenance) to support operations at Rhode Island Hospital by maintaining and repairing critical power plant equipment. In this role, you will inspect, service, and repair high-pressure boilers, medical waste incinerators, and related systems to ensure compliance with state regulations and safety standards while supporting reliable facility operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure boilers, turbo-generators, medical waste incinerators, and other power plant equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Calibrate and maintain temperature monitors, transmitters, air pollution equipment, and HVAC energy management control systems
  • Repair and replace Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment, including analog and digital input/output components and associated control systems
  • Maintain communication wiring and peer-to-peer control systems, replace defective loop controllers, and assist with reprogramming of process controllers
  • Utilize computer systems to create preventive maintenance schedules and maintain records, reports, and spreadsheets related to repairs, parts usage, and system performance
  • Operate machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, presses, and saws to fabricate or modify parts as needed
  • Perform duties of Boiler Operator, Incinerator Operator, or Power Plant Operating Engineer as required to support staffing needs
  • Support general maintenance and upkeep of the boiler room, generating plant, and autoclave areas, including cleaning, painting, and minor facility repairs
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or vocational school completion required
  • 3-5 years of related experience in power plant maintenance or boiler operations required; training in advanced electronic controls and boiler operations from a technical school, military training, or equivalent experience considered
  • Current Boiler Operator License from the City of Providence required; Stationary Operating Engineer License from the City of Providence must be obtained within one year of hire
  • Working knowledge of steam thermodynamics, generators, electrical systems, air pollution regulations, electronic burner management systems, and electronic control devices
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electronic troubleshooting ability with experience diagnosing and repairing complex equipment Working at Brown University Health As of October 15, 2024, Lifespan is now Brown University Health.
