What You'll Do Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by following safety rules and regulations at all times including proper wearing of company PPE Ensure equipment inspection reports are filled out each shift Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed without the assistance of maintenance personnel Responsible for daily housekeeping duties including but not limited to immediate work area Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures Assist Utility Operator and Assistant Furnace Operator with the exchanging of electrodes Assist Utility Operator with filling alloy, refractory, and carbon hoppers at furnace Assist arc furnace personnel with between heat turnarounds Assist the Furnace Operator when tapping electric arc furnace Assist with cleaning and filling the tap hole after each heat Clean, repair or replace tap holes and wall burners; build up around doors and properly plug tap holes to prevent metal loss while retaining the ability to open the tap hole when required Cleans and prepares slide gates, furnaces, roofs, ladles, tundishes, covers, forms, etc for repair and relining and fabrication Cut bricks to size, as required and cut notches or holds to provide for smoke control tap holes, tap mountings, heating elements, etc Ensure that all materials picked up and moved to the processing area are properly handled and located Lays brick up in ladles, roofs, furnaces, tundishes, etc. Handle bricks by hand for multiple hours at a time Operate cutting torch for operational needs Prepare thermocouples, oxygen probes, lances and test molds for use Repair or replace fire brick lining of ladles, furnace tap holes and spout Take slag samples as required Take steel temperature in the tundish Train in all areas of the Melt Shop to include Furnace, Ladle Furnace, Casting Machine, and Refractories Use temperature probes to monitor steel temperature in tundish What You'll Need Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with excellent strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, chemical, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces Basic computer skills Dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs Must be able to learn quickly and multitask Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs Some overtime will be required Work on a rotating shift which may include weekends and holidays Your Education High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred We are CMC, a Fortune 500® company at the leading edge of our industry.
