Job Title:
Tooling Technician Job Description This role focuses on building, maintaining, and repairing production tooling, including tools, dies, molds, and fixtures, to ensure manufacturing operations run safely, efficiently, and in accordance with specifications. The Tooling Technician supports production and engineering teams by preparing, troubleshooting, and improving tooling while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Responsibilities Set up, maintain, and repair tooling, dies, molds, and fixtures used in production. Troubleshoot tooling issues promptly to minimize production downtime and maintain efficiency. Perform preventive maintenance on tools, molds, and related equipment to extend service life and prevent failures. Read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, electrical and hydraulic diagrams, and specifications to guide work. Disassemble, inspect, clean, and polish molds, using skill and care on critical surfaces to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Disassemble and repair mechanical and hydraulic actuated molds, identifying and correcting issues with components and systems. Reassemble molds accurately, including rewiring as needed, to ensure safe and reliable operation. Rework and construct machine parts using hand tools and machining equipment as required to restore or improve tooling performance. Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances. Collaborate closely with production and engineering teams to support tooling needs, resolve issues, and implement improvements. Maintain accurate documentation and records of tooling maintenance, repairs, modifications, and inspections. Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies while working with tools, machinery, and electrical or hydraulic systems. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience in tooling, toolroom, or mold/die work. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for tooling and mold systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, tooling drawings, and technical specifications. Ability to read micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools accurately. Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions. Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic circuits, including the ability to use diagrams, blueprints, and electrical circuit test meters and methods. Hands-on experience with CNC machines, lathes, and mills in a tooling or mold environment. Demonstrated ability to disassemble, inspect, clean, and polish molds with attention to critical surfaces. Capability to disassemble and repair mechanical and hydraulic actuated molds and reassemble them correctly. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical training in machining, tooling, or a related field is a plus. Experience with machining processes such as milling, turning, and grinding is preferred. in welding or fabrication is preferred and considered an asset. Experience with tool and die work and general tooling practices. Ability to rework and construct machine parts using hand tools and basic shop equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards in all tooling activities. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with production and engineering teams. Organizational skills to maintain accurate tooling records and documentation. Work Environment This position operates on a 2nd shift schedule, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., supporting active production operations. You will work in a manufacturing shop environment that uses CNC machines, lathes, mills, and a variety of tooling and mold equipment. The role involves frequent use of hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical and hydraulic test equipment. The work area includes machinery, moving equipment, and standard industrial conditions where adherence to safety procedures and appropriate work attire, such as protective clothing and safety gear, is essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anniston, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr.
