What to Expect The Lead Tool & Die Specialist reports to the Tool & Die Supervisor and is responsible for assisting department leaders with successful completion of scheduled and unscheduled work within the shop. Lead by example, this is primarily but not limited to, performing preventative maintenance, repairs, ECO's, jig/fixture work, and miscellaneous request asked of the shop. The ideal candidate has a proven record of success in an environment where superior quality work is expected, encouraged, noticed, and rewarded.
We are looking for candidates who are shift flexible and available to work overtime, based on business needs. What You'll Do
Oversee hourly Tool and Die Specialists and Apprentices to ensure work orders are completed and closed in a timely manner
Coordinate tool and die work, engineering changes, mold modifications, and repairs with line production and other teams to ensure molds are ready to run
Communicate, define, and delegate daily task between shifts to ensure jobs continue the same path and direction
Update leadership stakeholders (Production, Maintenance, Sub-Assembly) on all job statuses
Develop and train teams with skill leveling
Identify and implement proactive systems to achieve consistent reduction in injection molding defects and productivity concerns
Support engineering to evaluate feasibility and implementation What You'll Bring
Completion of Tesla's Tool and Die Apprenticeship program or currently a Tool and Die Specialist, S3 (III) or above that meet internal mobility eligibility requirements
5+ years hands-on experience working in mold maintenance and repair (i.e., hot runner system, slide or core action limit switches, SVG cylinders) including new vehicle development and launch activities
Possess machining skills for minor mold component repair and replacement
Knowledge with interpretation of dimensional inspection results (checking fixture, CMM or vision system) and TIG welding
Strong analytic problem-solving skills and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to work with and develop production performance metrics (efficiency, quality, safety, throughput, costs)Proficient with common MS office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal Compensation and Benefits

Expected Compensation
$44.45 - $66.78/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
