Tool & Die Maker Part Time Straton Industries - 3.7 Stratford, CT Job Details Part-time $32 - $36 an hour 23 hours ago Qualifications Report writing Blueprint specification interpretation Dimensional measurements Precision measurement in machining Geometry Quality standards in production Algebra Hand tools AS9100 Full Job Description Position Summary The Tool and Die Maker analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances. Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part. Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product. Adheres to quality control procedures. Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Use of hand measuring tools (ex. Micrometer, Calipers, Depth Mic, etc.) Basic blueprint reading skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Working knowledge of certified quality standards (AS9100 Rev D). Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
