Job Description

Position Summary:
Our client is a leading manufacturer of plastic injection molded products, is seeking an experienced Tool Room Manager to oversee all activities related to the maintenance, repair, and optimization of injection molds and tooling equipment. This individual will manage the tool room team and ensure all tooling meets production, quality, and safety standards, while supporting continuous improvement and preventative maintenance efforts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead, manage, and develop tool room personnel including toolmakers, machinists, and apprentices. Plan and prioritize daily tooling activities to support production demands and minimize downtime. Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for injection molds, dies, and other tooling. Diagnose tooling issues and direct timely and cost-effective repairs. Coordinate new mold samples, repairs, engineering changes, and validations. Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production departments to ensure tooling supports product requirements. Manage inventory of spare tooling components, inserts, and shop supplies. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized tool room environment in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Track mold/tool history records, maintenance logs, and tooling performance metrics. Support tooling development for new products and continuous improvement initiatives. Coordinate with external vendors for mold repair or fabrication when necessary. Ensure all mold changes, repairs, and modifications follow proper documentation and revision control.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; Technical degree or Tool & Die certification preferred. Minimum 5+ years of experience in a tool room or mold maintenance role within an injection molding environment. 2+ years in a supervisory or management role strongly preferred. Deep understanding of mold construction, tooling materials, machining, and polishing techniques. Skilled in reading and interpreting mold/tooling blueprints, CAD drawings, and specifications. Hands-on experience with mills, lathes, grinders, EDMs, and CNC equipment. Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills. Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication abilities. Familiarity with mold maintenance tracking systems and preventive maintenance tools. #
