Job Description

Position Summary:
With minimal supervision, research, select, justify, purchase and implement manual and CNC equipment for the manufacture of PHD parts. Perform all buyer-related functions and supervise the daily activities of the Tool Room. Improve processes for manual and CNC machines. Train operators and programmers to process parts using new technology and tooling on manual and CNC machines. This position is responsible for maintaining all tooling responsibilities for PHD facilities in both Huntington and Fort Wayne.
Key Responsibilities:
Research, selection, justification, proposal, negotiation, purchase, testing, implementation and problem resolution of equipment and tooling systems Design and manufacturing of fixtures and documentation of processes Perform part manufacturing research Setup tooling and fixture kits Participate on the machine crash team and assist maintenance with machine problems Continuous improvement of processes for manual and CNC machines Supervision of the daily activities and continual improvement and organization of the Tool Room Performing all buyer related activities for the Tool Room and Model Shop including, purchasing tooling and related equipment, negotiating discounts, reducing and maintaining accurate inventory, obtaining quotes Creating and maintaining JD Edwards records related to tooling and equipment Creating and maintaining relationships with vendors Assisting with special tool design Providing training and development guidance to operators and other members of the company
CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
: 2 to 4 years of experience as a tool maker in a manufacturing environment. Certification or Associate Degree from an accredited technical school is preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required. Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and applying GD&T principles. Experienced in operating manual machine tools. Knowledge of shop mathematics, mechanics, and metal properties. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Basic computer skills and experience with CAD software. Strong verbal and written communication skills
