Job Description

Job Title:
Mechanical Designer Job Description The Mechanical Designer creates precise 3D CAD models, production drawings, and tooling designs that support manufacturing operations from concept through implementation. This role combines hands-on mechanical aptitude with strong CAD skills to design welding jigs, forming dies, fixtures, and specialized tools, while also contributing to CNC programming and troubleshooting of production processes. Responsibilities Create accurate 3D CAD models and detailed production drawings using Autodesk Inventor. Develop clear and manufacturable drawings from customer prints, physical samples, hand sketches, and other available information. Design welding jigs, forming dies, checking fixtures, specialized tools, and in-process checking aids to support production and quality control. Assist with the design and manufacture of specialized in-house tools and equipment used in manufacturing operations. Use Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM software to develop CNC programs for tooling, fixtures, and related components. Assist with operating CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture welding jigs, dies, fixtures, and other tooling as needed. Support prototype and tooling production from initial design through final implementation on the shop floor. Troubleshoot design, tooling, and production-process issues and propose effective, practical solutions. Recommend changes to manufacturing methods, material handling, equipment layouts, and other processes to improve quality, efficiency, and safety. Collaborate with engineering, production, and tooling teams to ensure designs meet functional, quality, and manufacturability requirements. Maintain accurate design documentation, CAD files, and revision histories in accordance with internal standards. Essential Skills Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor for 3D modeling and production drawing creation. Previous CAD drafting or mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, dimensions, and manufacturing specifications. Understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and measurement techniques. Strong mechanical aptitude with proven problem-solving skills in a production setting. Ability to use calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes, and other precision measuring devices accurately. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs for documentation, reporting, and communication. Solid foundation in mechanical design principles and practical application in a shop or plant environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM software to develop CNC programs for tooling and fixtures. Hands-on experience operating CNC and manual machining equipment to produce tooling and fixtures. Familiarity with designing welding jigs, forming dies, checking fixtures, and specialized tools. Experience supporting prototype builds and tooling implementation from concept through production. Experience working with CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar, in addition to Autodesk Inventor. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering and production. High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, manufacturable designs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oshkosh, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
