Job Description
Overview Lomar is a shop that still values skill. Manual machining isn't something we've phased out it's something we rely on. At Lomar, we build custom products, which means there are no shortcuts and skill matters every step of the way. This isn't copy-and-paste programming or push-button manufacturing. Sometimes the print is just the starting point; the real work happens at the machine, dialing in setups, making adjustments, solving problems, and getting it right. As a tool maker, you'll produce custom parts to precise specifications using manual lathes, Bridgeport mills, and surface grinders. You'll play a key role in the complete tool build and assembly process, working closely with Design Engineers during tryouts, troubleshooting, and final machine development. What you'll work with Manual Bridgeport milling Custom, low-volume production parts Prints that often require interpretation and setup decisions Hands-on adjustments at the machine not just running programs What you bring A machinist who thrives here spots problems before they become scrap. Takes pride in setup, finish, and machine performance. Can work independently without constant direction. Knows when something "doesn't feel right" and fixes it. Doesn't cut corners when production gets tight. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and grinders Write programs using Acu-Rite controls to meet customer specifications Build, modify, and assemble tooling based on design requirements Troubleshoot tools and perform necessary adjustments and repairs Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and equipment Ensure all parts meet quality standards and pass first-piece inspection Collaborate with engineering and production teams on tool performance and improvements Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Journeyman Tool maker or Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing/tooling experience Strong math skills and attention to detail Experience using: Micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring tools Hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, files, and deburring tools Air drills and die grinders Previous tooling experience required Ability to work independently and maintain reliability in a fast-paced environment Why Join Lomar We are a stable & growing company.
