Grinder Trainee (Shop / Machining Experience Required)

Mechanical aptitude required—this is not a general labor position. Ideal candidates have hands-on experience with tools, machining equipment, or exposure to manufacturing or technical environments. This is a career-track role for individuals interested in machining or skilled trades. BTM Company is hiring a Grinder Trainee to join our manufacturing team. This is an entry-level role designed for individuals who want to build a long-term career in precision machining. You will be trained by experienced machinists to operate grinding equipment, inspect parts, and produce high-quality components. What You'll Do Learn to operate grinding machines (surface grinders, centerless grinders, Blanchard, etc.) Assist in producing precision parts to specification with a focus on quality Perform basic inspections, including first-piece and in-process checks Learn to read and interpret blueprints and part drawings Use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges Support basic machine setup and routine maintenance Accurately track production in BTM's ERP system Follow all safety and quality (QMS) requirements Minimum Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED (required unless currently enrolled in a high school or technical program) Demonstrated mechanical aptitude (work, school, or hands-on experience required) Experience using tools, equipment, or working in a shop or manufacturing environment Ability to use or learn precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Reliable attendance and work history Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs Preferred Qualifications (Candidates with these will stand out) Trade school coursework or technical training in machining, manufacturing, or a related field Completion of (or currently enrolled in) a skilled trades, CNC, or manufacturing program Exposure to shop equipment, machining processes, or precision part production Experience reading basic part drawings or working from prints Familiarity with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) What BTM Provides Hands-on training with experienced machinists Clear path to advance into a skilled Grinder or Machinist role Long-term career development in the skilled trades Competitive pay and benefits Stable, team-oriented manufacturing environment Work Environment Manufacturing/shop setting Standing for up to 90% of the shift Hands-on, fast-paced production environment
