CNC Rotary Draw Tube Bender Setup / Operator
POSITION PURPOSE
The Tube Bender Setup/Operator is responsible for machine setup, tooling installation, program verification, production operation, quality inspection, and troubleshooting of tube bending equipment. This position ensures products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform complete machine setups and production operations according to job specifications, work instructions, and engineering drawings. Produce quality parts while meeting established production standards and customer requirements. Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Set up rotary draw tube bending machines for production runs. Install, align, and adjust bend dies, clamp dies, pressure dies, mandrels, wiper dies, and related tooling. Load, verify, edit, and troubleshoot CNC bending programs as required. Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary machine or program adjustments. Read and interpret shop drawings, work orders, and work instructions. Operate tube bending equipment to ensure the highest quality production standards are achieved. Monitor bend quality, dimensions, and machine performance throughout production runs. Inspect parts using calipers, angle finders, protractors, gauges, fixtures, and other measuring instruments. Accurately and efficiently complete production orders according to established procedures. Ensure compliance with all required production, quality, and traceability documentation. Meet daily production, quality, and efficiency goals while achieving expected run rates. Identify and troubleshoot issues including springback, wrinkling, flattening, wall thinning, tooling wear, and machine malfunctions. Recommend measures to improve production methods, setup efficiency, equipment performance, tooling effectiveness, and product quality. Report immediately to supervision any issues affecting safety, quality, equipment, tooling, or production schedules. Maintain a working knowledge of all tube bending processes, materials, and machine capabilities. Assist other operators and departments as needed. Ensure safe operation of equipment and compliance with all company safety policies. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment. Perform all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience setting up and operating rotary draw tube bending equipment preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions. Understanding of tube bending principles, material characteristics, bend calculations, and tooling requirements. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of mandrel bending, tooling alignment, and machine setup procedures. Ability to use precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment. Understanding of quality standards and dimensional tolerances. Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Skill in performing accurate arithmetic functions involving decimals, percentages, fractions, ratios, and basic geometry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to use hands to handle, feel, grasp, and manipulate objects, tools, and controls. Ability to reach with hands and arms frequently. Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as required. Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds throughout the workday. Ability to visually inspect parts, tooling, and machine operations. Ability to communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment.
