We are looking for an experienced, hands-on mold maker to join our team and work exclusively repairing and restoring molds. Position Overview Moldesign is seeking a skilled Mold Maker - Repair & Tooling Specialist to focus on mold repair, maintenance, modification, and hands-on fabrication work within our shop. This is a bench-focused, hands-on role for someone who enjoys working directly with metal, tooling, and precision repairs. This position is centered on diagnosing issues, restoring molds to production-ready condition, and supporting the overall efficiency of our manufacturing operation. This role does not involve 3D design/modeling, CAD work, or CNC machine programming/operation. We are looking for a craftsman who thrives in traditional mold making, repairing, fitting, welding, machining, and problem-solving. What You'll Do Mold Repair & Maintenance Diagnose mold wear, damage, and production-related issues Repair aluminum and steel molds to original specifications Perform weld repairs, surface restoration, and structural corrections Replace worn or damaged mold components Restore mold functionality, fit, finish, and sealing surfaces Mold Modification & Improvement Make manual adjustments and modifications based on production needs Improve existing tooling for performance, durability, and efficiency Troubleshoot recurring mold issues and recommend corrective actions Collaborate with shop manager on repair priorities Precision Bench & Shop Work Perform fitting, grinding, polishing, drilling, tapping, cutting, and assembly work Use manual shop equipment, hand tools, and traditional machining methods Ensure molds meet quality and dimensional standards before returning to service Shop Support & Organization Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Track repair status and communication timelines Help prioritize urgent repair work that impacts customer delivery What We're Looking For Experience in mold making , tool & die, machining, fabrication, and precision metal work Strong welding and metal repair skills Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and shop documentation Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability High attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship Ability to work independently and manage priorities Preferred Experience Mold repair experience Aluminum fabrication and finishing TIG welding experience Tooling, fixture, or custom fabrication background What This Role Is Not To be clear, this position does not include: CAD design 3D modeling CNC programming CNC operation Office-based engineering work This is a hands-on builder/repair specialist role.
