Role Description This full-time Toolmaker role at GKN Powder Metallurgy is an on-site position based in the Greater Milwaukee area. The Toolmaker will build, repair, and maintain tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in powder metal manufacturing operations. Daily activities include interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate materials, operating manual and CNC machine tools, and ensuring dimensional accuracy and functionality of tooling. The role also involves troubleshooting tooling issues, performing preventative maintenance, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to improve tool designs and manufacturing processes. The Toolmaker will follow safety and quality standards, document work performed, and support continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor. Qualifications Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models, and apply precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify tolerances. Proficiency in operating conventional and CNC machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM) and working with tooling materials such as tool steel and carbide. Experience in building, fitting, and maintaining dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and related tooling for manufacturing environments, ideally in metal forming or powder metallurgy. Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to diagnose and correct tooling and process issues on production equipment. Commitment to safety, quality, and 5S or similar workplace organization practices, with attention to detail and accurate documentation of work. Ability to collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production team members, communicate clearly, and work independently with minimal supervision. Relevant technical training or apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Machining, or a related trade; a vocational or technical school certificate or associate degree is preferred. Previous experience in an industrial or automotive manufacturing setting is beneficial, especially within high-volume, precision-focused operations.
