ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Wastewater Collection Division is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 4,900 miles of sanitary sewer main lines with over 105,000 sanitary sewer structures and 425,000 service connections. The division has four area maintenance yards, a CCTV inspection section, and a lift station section. The Water Services Department is seeking a Utility Crew Chief. Positions in the Wastewater Collection Division oversee the work of staff involved in a sanitary sewer preventive maintenance program providing closed-circuit televised (CCTV) inspection, cleaning, repair, and construction of the wastewater collection system. The Utility Crew Chief supervises and directs crew activities to ensure safety and water quality policies are followed. The Utility Crew Chief represents the City to citizens and contractors when addressing various wastewater issues, coordinates activities with other departments and monitors, evaluates, and trains staff. Utility Crew Chiefs need to be proficient with computers and have strong verbal and written communication skills. In most operations, Utility Crew Chiefs supervise staff in CDL (Commercial Driver's License) positions.

SALARY Pay Range:

$30.92 - $45.67 per hour.

Hiring Range:

$30.92 - $37.58 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Four years of experience involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's and/or other municipal wastewater collection systems. One year of lead experience is required at the level of Senior Utility Technician, or Utility Specialty Technician, or other equivalent lead experience. Possession of an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade II certification in Wastewater Collection at the time of application. Possession of an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade III certification in Wastewater Collection (depending on assignment) by the end of probation.

For Utility Locating:

Possession of an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade III certification in Wastewater Collection and a Grade I certification in the other discipline by the end of probation. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Working conditions:

Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) over short distances of 20 feet or less. Involves walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces and working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, noise and dust.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Ability to assist with training employees in the construction and maintenance work of Utility Technicians, Senior Utility Technicians, Utility TV Technicians, and Utility Specialty Technicians in the Wastewater Collection division. Ability to communicate orally with customers, clients, or the public in either a face-to-face, one-on-one setting, by phone, or virtually. Asset Management (WAM) experience. Advanced ADEQ Certification. Microsoft Office experience.
