A Water Treatment Specialist or Waste Water Operator operates and monitors equipment in facilities that treat wastewater. Monitors treatment processes so that water is cleaned to meet public health and environmental standards and is safe for drinking or releasing into the environment.
Position Summary The Dual Utility Operator runs and maintains both drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure safe water delivery and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will seamlessly manage daily plant controls, process testing, and routine maintenance to safeguard public health and meet environmental standards. Plant Monitoring & Control SCADA oversight: Track system telemetry, tank levels, pressure changes, and distribution flows.
Process adjustments:
Modify system parameters based on real-time automated data and physical inspections.
Flow regulation:
Control the movement of influent, effluent, and sludge throughout both treatment systems Testing & Chemical Adjustment Sample collection: Gather regular process samples from raw, intermediate, and finished water stages.
Laboratory analysis:
Perform routine tests for pH, turbidity, chlorine residual, and dissolved oxygen.
Dosage optimization:
Adjust chemical feeds accurately to ensure safety and maintain compliance. Routine Maintenance & Compliance Equipment upkeep: Inspect, grease, clear, and perform preventative maintenance on pumps, valves, and blowers.
Log management:
Keep precise, legally binding operational records to fulfill environmental agency standards.
Site housekeeping:
Maintain clean, safe conditions across all facility buildings and grounds. Qualifications & Requirements Licenses & Certifications State certifications in both Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment (Class C / Level 2 or higher preferred). Valid state driver's license (CDL not required for field work). Experience & Skills Proven experience operating municipal or industrial water and wastewater facilities. Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting pumps, motors, and hydraulic systems. Basic mathematical skills to calculate chemical feed rates and flow volumes. Physical & Schedule Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and work in confined spaces. Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions around raw sewage and chemicals. Availability for a rotating shift schedule, including weekends, holidays, and emergency on-call status.
