Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator A, B, C/Mechanic Position Type:
Permanent Full Time Selections for current vacancies will be based upon the candidate's highest level of current/active FDEP license held.
REQUIREMENTS
: A high school diploma or its equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP),

Five (5) years [10,400 hours] of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a wastewater treatment facility PLUS two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment.

Three (3) years [6,240 hours] of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a wastewater treatment facility PLUS two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment.

One (1) year [2,080 hours] of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a wastewater treatment facility PLUS two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment. Additional college or technical coursework in subjects related to science or treatment plant operations is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
: Possess a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Possess a valid active Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Class A, Class B, or Class C Wastewater Operator's license and maintain said license in an active status during the term of employment. Pass an OSHA-compliant forklift operator training course, that meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.178, and be able to operate a forklift. Wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include respiratory protection. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call-out duties on a rotational basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or artificial disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed. $25.18 to $27.70 hourly Work schedule involves shift work and includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Performs experienced crafts and trades work participating in the daily operation, maintenance, and housekeeping typical of a wastewater treatment facility. Work includes operating process pumps, motors, blowers, and other wastewater treatment plant equipment; taking samples of sewage, effluents, and sludge; performing simple, routine laboratory tests, including sludge settling, centrifuge, and chlorine residual tests; cleaning treatment plant structures and equipment; and performing mechanical repairs on tanks, pumps, plant generators, mixers, aerators; center contacts, air compressors, chlorination equipment, lime and other chemical feed equipment, grit removal systems, mechanical screens, sludge dewatering equipment, and other equipment used in booster plants and utility lift stations.
