Job Description

Title Licensed Water Operator; Class
I, II, III
Location City of Griffin Description Maintains the efficient operations of a water treatment plant. Monitors water quality and samples, analyzes and records the results.
Essential duties include:
Monitors and adjusts the processing system to meet demands; inspects plant grounds, checks gauges, and takes readings; monitors flow levels, pumps, motors and valves. Monitors overall plant operations via the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Takes samples and tests chemical levels throughout the plant on an hourly basis; performs a series of daily laboratory analyses. Maintains the effectiveness of water filters by inspecting and cleaning as needed. Receive chemicals and adjusts chemical feeders as needed. Monitors flow throughout the plant to ensure proper operation. Makes equipment repairs and responds to breakdowns. Maintains log books and computer files containing laboratory analysis results, distribution system changes, filter backwash readings, process control changes, chemical inventory, and other pertinent information; documents all problems or complaints. Attends job related training; remains current on revisions to pertinent policies, procedures, rules, regulations, requirements and standards. Leads plant tours for the general public. Maintains plant building and grounds. Performs solids handling duties including wasting, dewatering, and chemical adjustments. Performs related duties. Position Requirements Knowledge of treatment plant operating principles, practices, and equipment. Knowledge of general maintenance practices. Knowledge of relevant state and federal guidelines. Knowledge of safety practices and protocols. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the diagnosis and repair of plant equipment. Skill in the collection and analysis of water samples. Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the use of hand tools. Skill in oral and written communication. Possession of a valid class "C" driver's license, acceptable driving history, and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed. High School diploma or GED. A Bachelor's Degree in a course of study related to the occupational field preferred. Certified as a Class I, II or III Water Operator. Certification from another state may be considered provided a Georgia Water Operator's license can be obtained through reciprocity. The only exception for not having a Class III certification is having a Bachelor Degree in a related field (i.e., microbiology, chemistry, engineering). In such instance, obtainment of the certification is required within six months of employment. This position requires working on shifts that may unexpectedly change depending on the needs of the treatment facility. Shifts may include nights, weekends or holidays.
