Job Description
Under direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, operates wastewater treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater treatment plants to control flow and processing of sewage to maintain compliance by performing the following duties: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Monitors control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control (SCADA) to regulate flow of sewage. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets recorded meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes. Maintains log of operations, records sludge generated and wasted daily. Accurately enters daily data into the computer so reports can be generated by deadlines. Collects wastewater samples, fills out chain of custody reports, and conducts basic laboratory tests and process control using approved methods. Performs basic maintenance duties and inspections on equipment. Performs yard maintenance including but not limited to grass cutting, weed eating, and hedge trimming. Keeps buildings, basins, pump and valve areas clean to ensure a safe working environment. Keeps wastewater treatment plants washed down including clarifiers ensuring weirs are clean to prevent short circuiting.
