Pulaski County Sewer District No. 1 is seeking a dependable, safety-minded wastewater professional to join its Operations team due to an upcoming retirement. A current Missouri Class C Wastewater Treatment Operator license is the minimum requirement. Applicants holding a Class B or Class A license are encouraged to apply. The selected candidate may be placed as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I, II, or III based on Missouri wastewater license level, directly related experience, and demonstrated qualifications. Position Summary The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator helps operate, inspect, and maintain the District's wastewater treatment facilities, laboratory functions, equipment, buildings, and grounds. The position performs hands-on operational and maintenance work to support regulatory compliance, protect public health, and maintain dependable wastewater service. Responsibilities will vary according to the operator's assigned level. Operators placed at higher levels will be expected to accept greater responsibility for compliance, troubleshooting, training, team coordination, and operational oversight. Primary Responsibilities Inspect, operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment processes, facilities, machinery, equipment, and grounds. Monitor plant conditions and make authorized process or equipment adjustments. Collect wastewater and other required samples. Perform routine chemical, biological, and physical laboratory testing. Review test results and help identify conditions outside established operating parameters. Maintain accurate operational, laboratory, maintenance, and regulatory compliance records. Troubleshoot treatment-process, control-system, equipment, and collection-system concerns. Assist with preventive maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and equipment. Support biosolids land-application activities in accordance with District procedures and regulatory requirements. Clean and disinfect tanks, structures, work areas, equipment, and other wastewater facilities. Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, spraying, and vegetation control. Safely operate District vehicles, trucks, tools, and equipment. Investigate service requests and customer concerns as assigned. Communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and members of the public. Participate in scheduled on-call coverage and support the District's 24-hour operations. Work overtime when operational needs or emergencies require it. Perform related duties and provide backup support for other Operations Department functions. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Current Missouri Class C Wastewater Treatment Operator license or higher. Valid state-issued driver's license. Acceptable public driving record. Ability to obtain a Missouri Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement within 180 days of employment. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to complete required reports and enter information into computerized systems. Ability to perform basic arithmetic and wastewater-related calculations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to respond appropriately to operational problems and emergency conditions. Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with coworkers and the public. Preferred Qualifications Missouri Class B or Class A Wastewater Treatment Operator license. Previous wastewater treatment plant or laboratory experience. Experience operating process-control systems and wastewater equipment. Experience performing wastewater sampling and laboratory testing. Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement. Experience with preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, or public utility operations. Physical and Work Requirements This is a safety-sensitive, physically demanding position. The employee must be able to: Perform heavy manual work for extended periods. Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Work around wastewater, chemicals, odors, fumes, noise, and heavy equipment. Walk over rough or uneven terrain. Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and use tools or equipment. Enter trenches and confined spaces when properly trained, equipped, and authorized. Lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 100 pounds as required. Meet applicable safety, respiratory-protection, and personal-protective-equipment requirements. Participate in pre-employment and ongoing safety-sensitive drug and alcohol testing.

$19.64 - $26.39 per hour
