Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE
Operator in Training or (Class II, III, or IV Certified)JOB STATUS
Non-ExemptGENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED
Operates, repairs, and maintains the wastewater treatment plant's facilities. Performs routine laboratory tests, diagnose operating problems and performs necessary operational corrective actions during work shift. Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent in accordance with the Mississippi Pollution Control Law, Section 49-17-1, EPA's Regulation 40 CFR Part 125 and 40 CFR Part 503. Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process adjustment requirements. Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings. Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses such as pH, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen, and settleability. Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties and makes operating decisions and process control adjustments in absence of supervisory personnel.DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of the principles and practices of wastewater treatment plant operations: operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in wastewater treatment processes, principles of supervision and training, and safe work practices.SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE
(But are not limited to): 1. Must be a high school graduate (GED acceptable). 2. Must be employed a minimum of six (6) months before applying for the Volume I, Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants correspondence course and must successfully complete the course within six (6) months allotted time for completion. 3. Must be able to operate grounds keeping equipment such as a lawn mower and weedeater, operate valves, and work with hand tools for extended periods. 4. Must be able to continuously lift and carry medium loads. 5. Must be able to continuously walk and climb stairs. 6. Must be able to continuously perform heavy physical labor. 7. Must be able to work in confined spaces. 8. Must be able to work with chemicals such as chlorine and HTH. 9. Must be able to wear SCBA breathing apparatus. 10. Must be insurable on the Authority's auto insurance policy. 11. Must be able to report to your assigned facility within a reasonable time.REPORTS TO
