The Sr. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator position is permanent and is technical/administrative work involving responsibility for assisting the Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in supervising the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant classified under the provisions of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Examples of Work:

• Assists in the operation and adjustment of pumps, valves, belt filter presses, and related equipment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant;
• Supervises and performs sampling and testing of wastewater for permit requirements and process control and adjustments as required;
• Maintains a log of plant operations and related records; prepares periodic reports;
• Batching of chemicals necessary for treatment plant processes;
• Ability to perform necessary daily laboratory sample collection and analysis;
• Makes or assists in the daily inspection of plant and machinery;
• Assists in supervising and participates in the operation of all equipment and processes relating to the interception, pumping, treatment, and disposal of wastewater;
• Conduct periodic examinations of plant equipment and directs necessary repairs and maintenance;
• Participates in special studies for improvement of plant operations;
• Assists in the requisition of materials, and maintains inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment;
• Calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment including drying ovens, incubators, balances, oxygen meters and spectrophotometer;

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a current minimum Grade-level (3A) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at the time of appointment; must maintain certification for the duration of the appointment. Also, must have and maintain a NYS driver's license at the time of and for the duration of the appointment.
