Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to lead our wastewater treatment operations. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the daily functions of the treatment plant, ensuring that all processes meet environmental standards and safety regulations. Your expertise will drive efficient water and wastewater systems management, utilizing advanced control systems and heavy equipment operation to maintain optimal plant performance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to environmental sustainability while leading a dedicated team committed to excellence in water treatment. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate all aspects of wastewater treatment plant operations, including water treatment equipment operation and industrial pump maintenance and repair Monitor and control plant processes using programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS) to ensure compliance with environmental regulations Operate heavy equipment safely for tasks such as tanker transfers, pump operation, and equipment repairs Collect, testing, analyze, and interpret data related to wastewater systems, water treatment, and water utility distribution to optimize plant performance Conduct routine inspections of wastewater treatment systems, mechanical components, and water treatment equipment to identify maintenance needs Ensure adherence to safety regulations by using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following established safety protocols during all operations Lead efforts in environmental compliance reporting, documentation, and record keeping for regulatory agencies Minimum Qualifications Must hold a valid and current NYS Certified 3A Wastewater Operator License Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an associates degree in applied science in one of the following curriculums approved by
NYSDEC:
Ecology and Environmental Technology from Paul Smith's College; OR Water Quality Monitoring from Ulster County Community College; OR Environmental Technology from SUNY- Morrisville; OR Water/Wastewater Technology from Crowder College and two years experience in a Wastewater Treatment Plant which included supervisory experience. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an associates degree in applied science and 18 months of operating experience at a Wastewater Treatment Plant (An Associates of Arts degree with 30 credit hours of math or science is considered equivalent to an Associate in Applied Science) and two years experience in a Wastewater Treatment Plant which included supervisory experience; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a New York State equivalency diploma and five (5) years of operating experience at a Wastewater Treatment Plant which included supervisory experience.
