Overview Join our team as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee and embark on a dynamic career dedicated to environmental stewardship and public health. Responsibilities Assist in the operation of wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, valves, and control systems such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS). Conduct routine inspections of plant machinery and infrastructure to identify maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions. Collect data related to water quality parameters, process performance, and system operations for analysis and reporting purposes. Perform basic repairs and maintenance to ensure continuous plant operations. Participate in construction projects or upgrades within the facility, assisting with installation or repair activities under supervision. Engage in safety protocols by performing heavy lifting safely, adhering to safety guidelines during maintenance or equipment repair activities, and supporting emergency response procedures when necessary. Qualifications HS Diploma or GED Basic math skills for data collection, measurements, and operational calculations. Mechanical knowledge or aptitude for understanding equipment repair and maintenance tasks. Familiarity with plumbing systems, construction practices, or water treatment processes is a plus. Willingness to satisfactorily complete training, experience and testing requirements of the NYS Sanitary Code for a Grade 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license and maintain license throughout employment. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work in various environmental conditions; comfort with working around machinery and confined spaces.
