ASSISTANT PLANT OPERATOR - WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT

The City of Steubenville Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for a Wastewater Assistant Plant Operator in our Wastewater Department. Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.; must have basic mechanical aptitude; possession of a valid driver's license; and may be required to obtain a Class B or higher CDL. Upon appointment, the employee will be required to pursue wastewater treatment licensing which must be kept as a condition of employment.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge and understanding of the function of pumps, valves, motors, gauges, together with their operation, maintenance and repair; Ability to acquire the knowledge and understanding of the purpose and function of a wastewater plant; Ability to operates, service and maintain pumps, valves, motors, gauges and related equipment in the department; Ability to interpret gauges, charts and meter readings related to the flow, temperature, pressure, weight and levels of liquids; Ability to take appropriate action for correcting any problems; Ability to performs all assigned tasks according to all safety policies and procedures; Ability to prepare and maintain logs, reports, records and other documents related to the operations of the department and equipment; Ability to use various computer formats and work with various electronic equipment and programs as well as handwritten format in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations and reporting requirements.

•An exam may be given to all applicants. Starting wage for this full-time, permanent position is $22.8001/hour . This is a Union position with benefits and the possibility for future advancement. This position is required to work shifts, weekends and holidays.
