A Water Treatment Specialist or Waste Water Operator operates and monitors equipment in facilities that treat wastewater. Monitors treatment processes so that water is cleaned to meet public health and environmental standards and is safe for drinking or releasing into the environment.
The Manager of E-Coat and Industrial Water Treatment is responsible for leading and overseeing operations of the E-Coat and industrial water treatment systems across all shifts. This role will include managing personnel, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and driving system upgrades and efficiency improvements. This role is responsible for monitoring daily functionality of all equipment, tanks etc. related to E-Coat and Industrial Water Treatment, conducting periodic tests to ensure chemical, thermal, mechanical stability, structural integrity, maintaining accurate records, optimizing procedures, auditing records & processes, proactively addressing Safety, Environmental and Health hazards and related risks, analyzing production performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The job title could be changed to Subject Matter Expert - E-Coat and Industrial Water Treatment, based on business need. Position Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
Oversee the treatment plant operator and E-Coat operator on both shifts. Supervise, train, and mentor personnel, ensuring adherence to best practices, safety protocols, and company policies. Establish work priorities and monitor tasks to ensure efficient and effective operations.
System Upgrades and Planning:
Plan, develop, and execute upgrades to the E-Coat and water treatment systems to improve performance and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage upgrade projects from concept to completion.
Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure all operations are compliant with discharge permits and environmental regulations. Maintain accurate records of water and chemical usage, discharge monitoring reports (DMRs), and regulatory documentation.
Chemical Management:
Oversee the ordering and tracking of chemicals used in the E-Coat and water treatment processes. Optimize chemical usage to maintain operational efficiency and cost control.
Technical Oversight:
Supervise the maintenance and repair of water treatment equipment and systems. Provide guidance on testing water samples and interpreting results to ensure optimal system performance. Apply knowledge of polymer chemistry and chemical processes to troubleshoot and enhance operations. Continuous Improvements Identify opportunities for operational improvements in efficiency, quality, and sustainability. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for consistent and safe operations. Financial Responsibility No cost center responsibility; no profit & loss responsibility Responsible for estimating and executing improvement projects within budget and on time. Spill Management Position Qualifications & Requirements:
Experience :
Level II = 5-7 years; higher experience will be a plus Minimum 5 years of experience in the industrial truck body, or other similar sheet metal coating industry preferred, or automotive E-Coat industry. 3-5 years of management or supervisory experience in a similar setting; more than 5 years of experience in industrial paint or e-coat as an Engineer or Subject Matter Expert could also suffice.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering (preferred) or a related field. Master's degree in chemical engineering or similar discipline will be a plus. Certification /
License:
WWTP Operator certification is a plus.
Technical Expertise:
Prior experience or knowledge in polymer chemistry is highly desirable. Proven ability to supervise and guide personnel involved in maintaining and repairing water treatment equipment. Familiarity with testing and analysis of water samples and treatment methods.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and continuous improvement techniques. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive decision-making and performance improvement. Ability to engage peers, direct reports, and other associates to solve problems and develop improved methods, resolve issues or constraints. Ability to oversee, guide, and train technicians, maintenance personnel, and operations personnel.
