Job Description

Summary:
Under general supervision, the operator, performs a variety of duties essential to the operation of a major wastewater treatment, disposal facility; inspects, operates, monitors, and maintains a variety of facilities, equipment's, and systems involved in various processes of the wastewater treatment plant facility; monitors plant operation through visual observation and computer screens; regulates flows; performs chemical analysis and tests; and performs a variety of related duties to ensure the facility's final effluent is of the best quality in order to protect all downstream receiving waters and their users while utilizing plant resources wisely and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a full range of duties related to plant operations; operates a variety of facilities, systems, equipment, pumps, and valves; learns to operate and maintain new systems and equipment as necessary Performs a variety of equipment maintenance duties; inspects, removes, cleans, lubricates, backwashes, repairs, maintains, and reinstalls equipment related to a variety of wastewater treatment plant facilities, systems, grinders, drip traps, scales, centrifuges, hydro-vanes, tanks, pumps, valves, and piping systems; cleans and calibrates meters and probes; performs general housekeeping of all areas associated with assigned facilities Investigates and acknowledges alarms throughout the wastewater treatment facility; monitors, polls, and responds to lift station alarms Daily maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the wastewater treatment plant, drying beds, blower room, and generators. Cleans and washes clarifiers. Cleans sewer mains and lift stations. Performs lift station maintenance including alarm testing, pump down testing, pull pumps, etc. Ensures lift stations are operating efficiently, performs amp readings, ensures pumps are working properly. Collect wastewater samples for testing Prepares daily reports, compiles necessary data, completes State and Federal mandated monitoring reports and addresses areas of deficiencies or concerns accordingly Regular upkeep and maintenance of the vehicles, equipment, and tools used. Assist with other departments maintenance work as needed or required. Operates a light truck in and out of the plant Operates a tractor, forklift or other vehicles/carts inside the plant grounds as required Performs related duties as required
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to work in an outdoor environment subject to extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, and move/lift to 50 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public. Required to be on call as directed on nights and weekends as required (rotation) Must be able to respond to emergency calls. Must be able to work weekends and overtime as required.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED 3 years experience in Wastewater operations
Valid Driver License:
Class B CDL Operators License required; Wastewater Class D license; Wastewater Class C license preferred
