Operate medium to large-sized equipment, including backhoe, loader, bulldozer, and track hoe, to install or repair underground utilities and drive/load a dump truck. Operate haul rig with a trailer loaded with wide loads. Act as backup crew leader during his absence and supervise 3-5 crew members. Perform regular labor duties and use various hand tools to maintain and repair water and sewer mains.
Work schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., nights, weekends, overtime and on-call rotation as required
- An integral member of a 3-5-man construction crew.
- At times will be performing manual labor to help install/repair water and sewer systems.
- Drive and load dump trucks as required.
- Operate bulldozer to clear utility right of way (ROW) and demo condemned structures.
- Operate backhoe or track hoe excavating ditch lines for sewer or water utility construction/repair.
- Must be able to operate equipment in/around other underground utilities in a safe manner.
- Operate, inspect, and load equipment/materials safely on a trailer.
- Inspect and drive a haul truck with an oversized load.
- Must be able to understand and follow directions and instructions.
- Must be able to sit for long periods while operating equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry 80 lbs.
- Must be able to safely climb onto equipment, balance, stoop, bend and crouch.
- Must be able to use and operate various hand tools: shovels, rakes, saws, hammers, ratchets, and sockets.
- Must be able to operate various gas-powered saws, chain saws, and hydraulic or electric pumps.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees.
- Any other duties as assigned.

- Must be available to work a rotating on-call duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have reliable transportation and telephone and be close enough to Tyler to respond within 30 minutes of receiving a call.
- Must stand for 6 hours daily; turn and sit for 3 hours daily; crouch for 2 hours daily; bend, stoop, walk, climb, crawl, and kneel for 1 hour daily.
- Working conditions may also include extreme cold and heat, temperature changes, humidity, heights, vibration, wetness, dryness, confined spaces, noise 80-dB and over, fumes, mists, gases, dust, caustics, chemicals, allergens, detergents, mechanical hazards, moving objects, and exposure to burns.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or GED is required, plus at least three (3) years of job-related experience. Must be able to operate various hand and gas-powered tools (hammer, ratchets, saws, electric pumps, etc.). Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License, air brake endorsement, and a clean driving record. Must possess a TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution/Class "1" Wastewater Collection License or can obtain one within one (1) year.
