Job Title:
MIG Welder Job Description This position seeks an experienced MIG Welder with a strong background in structural and fabrication welding. You will focus on producing high-quality welds on carbon steel components, ensuring strength, consistency, and adherence to detailed specifications. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid work ethic and proven weld quality to contribute in a fast-paced fabrication shop and grow with a stable, skilled team. Responsibilities Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel components with consistent quality and precision. Weld structural parts in accordance with blueprints, weld symbols, and job specifications. Complete fit-up, tacking, and fabrication work prior to final welding to ensure proper alignment and fit. Maintain consistent weld quality while meeting or exceeding established production standards. Inspect welds for accuracy, penetration, and defects, and make necessary corrections. Operate grinders and other hand tools for material preparation and finishing work. Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances. Work with sheet metal, mild steel, structural steel, and carbon steel as required. Support fabrication processes that may involve flux core, aluminum welding, and related techniques as needed. Follow all safety procedures, welding standards, and shop protocols at all times. Collaborate closely with fabricators, welders, and supervisors to meet project deadlines and production goals. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of MIG (GMAW) welding experience. Proven ability to pass a MIG welding test on steel. Hands-on experience in a metal fabrication or structural welding shop. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols. Solid understanding of welding techniques, best practices, and quality standards. Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel components. Experience working with structural steel and fabrication projects. Ability to use grinders, hand tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures safely and accurately. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with flux core welding processes. Experience working with stainless steel, sheet metal, mild steel, and aluminum welding. Familiarity with structural fitting and fabrication practices. Experience using grinders and other finishing tools for weld prep and cleanup. Exposure to operating or working around press brakes and related fabrication equipment. Attention to detail with a focus on weld appearance, penetration, and defect prevention. Strong work ethic and ability to perform in a fast-paced production environment. Effective communication and teamwork skills when working with fabricators and supervisors. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a fast-paced metal fabrication and structural welding shop. You will work primarily with carbon steel, structural steel, sheet metal, and mild steel, and may also handle stainless steel and aluminum as needed. Daily work involves MIG (GMAW) welding, flux core processes, grinding, fitting, and using hand tools, tape measures, and other fabrication equipment. The environment is production-oriented, with a strong focus on safety procedures, adherence to welding standards, and meeting project deadlines. You can expect to be on your feet, working at welding stations and fabrication areas, and collaborating closely with other welders and fabricators throughout your shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
