Welder/Fitter Job Description This role combines welding and fitting responsibilities in a busy fabrication shop environment. You will interpret blueprints, fit components accurately, and contribute to the production of high-quality fabricated products. The position suits someone with hands-on experience in industrial settings who enjoys working with tools, metal fabrication, and precise measurements. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints to understand project specifications, dimensions, and tolerances. Fit and align metal components according to blueprints and work instructions to prepare assemblies for welding. Use MIG welding techniques to join metal parts, ensuring strong, clean, and accurate welds when welding is required. Operate hand and power tools safely to cut, grind, shape, and prepare materials for fabrication. Inspect completed assemblies to verify that dimensions and alignment meet project and quality requirements. Collaborate with team members in the fabrication shop to coordinate workflow and meet production timelines. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety procedures and shop guidelines at all times. Identify and report any defects, material issues, or equipment concerns to help maintain consistent quality and safe operations. Essential Skills 1-3 years of fitting experience in a fabrication or industrial environment. 1-3 years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints. Proficiency with MIG welding or a strong interest in developing MIG welding skills. 1-3 years of experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively. 1-3 years of experience working in an industrial environment. Ability to work from detailed measurements and maintain accuracy in fitting and assembly. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Ability to follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment consistently. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a fabrication shop environment. Familiarity with metal fabrication processes and equipment. Capability to work independently with minimal supervision once trained. Willingness to learn and expand welding skills, including MIG welding techniques. Good communication skills to coordinate tasks with coworkers and supervisors. Why Work Here? Work Environment You work in a non-climate-controlled fabrication shop, where conditions can vary with the weather and seasons. You wear appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safety protocols while working around metal, sparks, and noise. The role is hands-on and physical, requiring comfort working on the shop floor throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gadsden, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
