Welder Job Description This role performs a wide range of welding and fabrication tasks using wire and stick welding equipment to produce and rework steel components according to detailed specifications. You will interpret layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, and verbal instructions to set up, lay out, and weld multi-component parts in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform welding duties using wire welders and stick welders to produce high-quality welds on steel components. Weld steel components in accordance with layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, and verbal instructions. Set up work areas, including preparing and positioning materials using jigs, fixtures, or hand layouts. Lay out work accurately to fabricate new parts and rework or repair finished products as needed. Assist in the fabrication and welding of multi-component parts, ensuring proper fit-up and alignment. Use structural steel welding techniques, including flux core processes, to meet project specifications and quality standards. Read and interpret welding symbols, diagrams, blueprints, and other instructional materials to determine welding requirements. Select and use appropriate welding equipment, consumables, and settings based on material and job specifications. Operate and maintain welding equipment such as torches, torch tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders safely and effectively. Work with various hand tools to prepare, fit, and finish components for welding and fabrication. Operate an industrial powered fork truck to move materials, components, and finished products as required. Follow established safety procedures, best practices, and quality standards throughout all welding and fabrication activities. Essential Skills Proven experience performing welding duties using wire welders and stick welders. Demonstrated ability to weld structural steel components using flux core processes.

Thorough familiarity with welding equipment, including torches, torch tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders. Ability to set up work using jigs, fixtures, or hand layouts to fabricate parts and rework finished products. Experience assisting in the fabrication and welding of multi-component parts. Ability to work with a variety of hand tools used in welding and fabrication. Ability to safely operate an industrial powered fork truck. Knowledge of welder concepts, practices, and procedures within a manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in structural steel fabrication and fitting. Comfort working from engineering drawings, work orders, and verbal instructions. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and fabricated components. Strong safety awareness and adherence to established safety procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with others in a production or fabrication team. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tuscaloosa, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $34.00/hr.
