Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. You will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your job is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure. A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Duties/Responsibilities:
Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job. Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment. Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage. Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded. Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area. Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered. Performs other related duties as assigned. Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures. Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces. Weld components using manual or semiautomatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead). Willingness and ability to travel to rious job sites as needed. Abilities:
Must have a LA City Welders License Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair. Excellent understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints. Basic ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms. Fundamental understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. Proficient in English.
Education and Experience:
Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program required. Current welding certifications (Recently expired certifications may be acceptable contingent upon the ability to successfully requalify prior to employment.) An LA City card is a must for this position.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead. Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours. Comfortable with working on elevated surfaces. Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions. Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work. Must be able to see details at close range. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times. Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials. Must be able to travel up to 60 miles from Costa Mesa.
